Basic Weekday Schedule

 

Please note that the resident work day begins at 7:00 am.  This is essential for us to honor start times for scheduled teaching conferences, continuity clinics, and leaving post-call.

  7:00 - 8:00 am     

Arrive, review census, and identify patients as "New, Follow-up, or Discharge."    Identify newborns with problems.  Follow up any labs or overnight events.  Begin seeing "Discharges".

8:00 - 8:30 am

Morning report in Dietary Conference Room.

8:30 - 9:00 am

Connect with attending and begin rounds on "Discharges" and newborns with problems.

9:30 - 12:00 am

Divide remaining work between team members.  See "Follow-up" and "New" babies. Perform circumcisions or other minor procedures.

12:00 - 1:00 pm

Noon Conference in Dietary Conference Room.

1:00 - 2:30 pm

Finish rounds on remaining infants. Perform circumcisions or other minor procedures.  Discharge planning for families leaving the following morning.  See "New" babies born during morning rounds (before 10 am)

1:30 - 2:15 pm THURSDAY ONLY

Breastfeeding rounds with Dr. Jane Morton.  Have an English-speaking patient identified who would benefit from hands-on help and teaching with breastfeeding.
